I am also struggling with myself all the time, but I am very optimistic in this sense. People are realizing more and more that happiness is freedom, and freedom is to be able to “travel light”, not possessing a lot of things, because at the end of the day, the things start to possess you.
I don’t think I really made that decision as I would like to say, it came quite naturally to me. All my possession are in a way replaceable except for maybe a handful of memorabilia which my friends and family have given me.
One day I realized that if I buy a castle, I cannot think about anything but taking care of it. Not that I can afford a Castle now but hey who knows.
I would rather buy a small farmhouse, so to keep it is very easy, and I have time to go to the mountains, to walk, do spend my life in the way that I would like. In short: the less you have to keep, the more you have in freedom. And one of the lessons nature teaches you is exactly that: keep your contradictions, as summer is the opposite of winter.

I’m not immune to the stresses of everyday life. After all, I too am human… mostly .I am subject to the same depressions, worries, freakouts and screw-ups as everyone else. Recently I found that the best way to get through difficult times is to apply lessons learned in childhood.
be kind
share
work
conserve
sleep
eat
exercise
learn
play (with joyful abandon)
So far, it seems to be working.
And thank you all for the lovely presents and wishes. Presents mostly.

I know that blogging rhetorically is probably a mistake, but I have time and it’s a wonderful way to close a bunch of tabs, and contemplate about our existence.
The biggest problem with being rhetoric, and having way too much time on your hands, is you get much too honest. Someone asked me whether I believe in God and all that stuff in my religion. I would like to say there is a God up there looking after me, but seeing how things really are I have my own hypothesis.
In 1859 Charles Darwin published a book that changed the world – The Origin of species. Not only Darwin gave us the answer on how we came about to exist, I believe his theory is the only answer we will ever likely to get to the ultimate question on why we exist. There was no original designer because evolution with its selfish gene has gone on to create all the 10 million species that we see on our earth.
Before I can go further I need to tell you the reasons of why man has come to worship god. It’s really simple. People can’t accept the fact that we are but the byproducts of natural evolution and since we are the only species that developed conscious thought we think we are the special and therefore we must have been selected by a celestial creator.
For the uneducated man one of the most convincing of all “proofs” for the existence of a god is the watchmaker argument. It was presented by William Paley in Natural Theology, and the opening passage begins like this (Paley, 1802):
“In crossing a heath, suppose I pitched my foot against a stone, and were asked how the stone came to be there; I might possibly answer, that, for anything I knew to the contrary, it had lain there forever: nor would it perhaps be very easy to show the absurdity of this answer. But suppose I had found a watch upon the ground, and it should be inquired how the watch happened to be in that place; I should hardly think of the answer I had before given, that for anything I knew, the watch might have always been there.”
Further down Paley continues:
“Every indication of contrivance, every manifestation of design, which existed in the watch, exists in the works of nature; with the difference, on the side of nature, of being greater or more, and that in a degree which exceeds all computation.”
The argument is wrong for several reasons. I will not elaborate on them for the sake of this post. I however would wish to express my own opinion on the matter.
Early men didn’t understand the world because he had not figured out how the world works and what are the underlying principles that govern the universe and thus he creates his own explanations. These explanations tend to be reinforced with force or what I call religions. It’s basically my ideology of the world is the right one and anyone who says otherwise is an infidel or blasphemer.
The reason why science actually developed was not because it was a way to disprove other people’s theories but it was actually a method devised by Church to approve certain religious theories and understanding of the world. Over time as our methods of observing the world improved with new inventions, old theories were scrutinized and laughed at. Like how we laugh at the thought that earth was at the center of our solar system and for 2000 years everyone believed in it. Hey even Aristotle and Ptolemy believed it so.
It wasn’t until the 16th century that a new idea was proposed by the Polish astronomer Nicolai Copernicus (1473-1543). In a book called On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies Copernicus proposed The Heliocentric System. He basically proved that the Sun, not the Earth, was the center of the Solar System and put an End to 200O years of untested belief.
I firmly believe in the law of accelerating returns. What took 2000 years to disprove; we now can do it 2minutes because of the advent of technology. We need to adopt a scientific approach to things because the hour is getting very late to be able to indulge in having key decisions made by religious people; by irrationalist by those who will steer the ship by faith and not by a compass but by the equal of reading the entrails of a chicken.
Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It’s nothing to brag about and those who preach faith, able and elevate it are intellectual slave holders, keeping mankind in a bondage, to fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction.
I fear Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don’t have all the answers to think that they do. Most people think it’s wonderful when someone says I’m willing lord, I will do whatever you ask me to do. Except that there are actually no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in with people with their own corruptions, limitations, agendas.
And anyone who tells you that they know what happens when you die, well I promise you, they don’t. How can I be so sure? Because I don’t know and you do not possess the mental powers that I do not.
The only appropriate attitude for man to have about the big questions is not the arrogant certainties of the whole mock of religion but doubt. Doubt is humble and that is what man needs to be. Considering that human history is littered with getting shit dead wrong.
This is why rational people, anti religious people must end their timidity and come out of their closets and assert themselves. And those who consider themselves moderately religious must really need to look in the mirror and realize the solace and comfort that religion brings you actually comes at a terrible price.
Well if the world does come to an end, here or ever, let’s remember what the problem was. We learned how to precipitate mass death before we got past the neurological disorder for wishing for it. That’s it. Grow up or die.
In writing this post I realized that I might have torpedoed my reputation for gentle diplomacy in this part of the world.
